Library 2.0
School Libraries on the Cutting Edge
About the Conference
This conference, presented by the School Library Systems of Genesee Valley, Monroe 1 and Monroe 2/Orleans BOCES, will explore critical opportunities for school libraries and technology. Inspired by a School Library Journal Leadership Summit exploration of the future of school libraries, we will work on developing local action plans to address some of the issues raised at the national summit.
The main areas of discussion nationally were Technology and Literacy, The Media Center in the Information Rich World, and School Library 2.0. Four critical opportunities from the top ten were selected for our local consideration.
- How can librarians enhance the use of technology in libraries and in classrooms?
- What changes do libraries need to make to embrace 21st century learners and the technologies with which they are comfortable?
- What is needed for librarians of the region to take on leadership roles in the use of technology? What does a librarian or library that leads in the use of technology look like?
- How do we form better partnerships with technology staff with whom we work?
Conference Presentations
The conference discussion will be center around three people: Alice Yucht, Diane Chen and you! While Alice and Diane have been invited to provide additional insight into the discussion at the SLJ Leadership Summit in which they participated as panel members, the real key to success from this confernece will be your input. This wiki has been created as a place where you can contribute to the discussion before, during, and after the conference. Wiki pages for each of the critical opportunities we will be addressing have been created as frameworks, but now we need your help to fill them in. Ask questions, provide your view and let us know what you think!
- Alice Yucht is a retired school librarian who now teaches at the library school at Rutgers University. In addition to being a national presenter, Alice worked to develop the AASL Blog.
